TDN MAGAZINE, As the Science Gets Better, Catching the Cheats Becomes Easier: Part V of A Painful Truth: No matter the sport, cheaters have always stayed one step ahead of those trying to catch them by doping with as-yet undetectable products. But what if authorities didn't need to determine what the products were, only what the specimin should look like if unaltered by any drug? Meet the biological passport, and Travis Tygart, the man who has successfully routed out two of sports' most defiant cheats, Lance Armstrong and Marion Jones, neither of whom had ever tested positive. 15.40 at LCPG1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches  [1m (T)]Winner: Beauty Parlour (GB), f, 3 by Deep Impact (Jpn)
Sent off at 7-10 for yesterday's G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches after her easy prep success in the Apr. 15 G3 Prix de la Grotte, Ecurie Wildenstein's unbeaten "TDN Rising Star" Beauty Parlour (GB) (Deep Impact {Jpn}) duly delivered with another commanding performance in front of the Longchamp faithful. Taking over from stable rabbit Regatta (Fr) (Layman) passing the quarter pole, the bay required no more than two slaps with Christophe Soumillon's whip to seal a comfortable length victory over Ballydoyle's Up (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). "We all knew she was good, but to win today is a great relief," trainer Elie Lellouche commented. "She is now a Group 1 winner and that is all that matters."

Intriguingly, Beauty Parlour followed the same route to this Classic as last year's Pouliches heroine Golen Lilac (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), winning twice as a juvenile over a mile in conditions races at Saint-Cloud. Leaving no one in any doubt as to her class when winning those stepping stones by a total margin of 11 1/2 lengths, the Wildenstein homebred returned to show that she had substance as well as style when easily annexing this race's course-and-distance trial, the G3 Prix de la Grotte. Connections feared that this mile might prove on the sharp side for her by now, but after her pacemaker Regatta eventually forged her way to the head of affairs, she had a suitable pace to bring her stamina into play. Professional despite being forced to race three-wide for the major part of the contest, Soumillon asked her to make an early move at the end of Longchamp's renowned "false straight" and she was in front and there to be shot at with just under a quarter mile remaining. Given a couple of cracks soon after to keep her up to her work, she was hand ridden throughout the final yards, as Up closed strongly to lead home Topeka and fellow Ballydoyle raider After (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) to further demonstrate the strength in depth among Aidan O'Brien's current crop of sophomores.
"She didn't have the best of trips and Christophe was forced to take her to the front a little too early," trainer Elie Lellouche said after his stable luminary became the 10th to complete the Prix de la Grotte-Pouliches double since 1990. "She stayed on nicely and showed all her class. She is in the G1 Prix de Diane [at Chantilly June 17] and the G1 Coronation S. [at Royal Ascot June 22], so I will talk to the owners, but I feel she should stay at home and go for the Diane. I am sure she will get the [1 5/16-mile] trip and there is plenty of time for her to travel later on."
