TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

Fire Lily followed a second Pattern-race success in the G3 Ballyogan S. over six furlongs at Leopardstown June 14 with a seventh in the G1 July Cup at Newmarket July 14, but rebounded from that to win this race in which the returning Starspangledbanner (Aus) (Choisir {Aus}) proved a major disappointment. Held up in last early as that 9-4 joint-favorite led, the bay gradually worked her way into contention as Ballydoyle's four-time Group 1 winner started to fade away with a quarter mile remaining. Getting to Gordon Lord Byron inside the final 50 yards, Fire Lily asserted as Starspangledbanner dropped out the back and was eased down by Joseph O'Brien. Connections of the winner are looking at a return to this venue for the Sept. 15 G3 Renaissance S.
