TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

Coolmore Buys Stake in Verrazano

Coolmore, which purchased a stake in subsequent juvenile champion Shanghai Bobby (Harlan’s Holiday) last fall, has doubled its GI Kentucky Derby hopefuls by obtaining a stake in Let’s Go Stable’s Verrazano (More Than Ready). "The Coolmore team of Michael Tabor, Derrick Smith and Mrs. John Magnier have purchased a stake in Verrazano and will race him in partnership with Let's Go Stable," confirmed Bryan Sullivan who, along with Kevin Scatuorchio, manages Let’s Go Stable. "We have a long association with Coolmore, as Kevin’s father James raced Scat Daddy, who has made such a great start to his stud career at Ashford." Verrazano was tabbed a TDN Rising Star with his 7 3/4-length debut victory at Gulfstream Jan. 1 and became a bona fide Derby contender with his 16 1/4-length allowance romp in Hallandale Feb. 2.
