TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

Also Ran: Kiss in the Forest, Tu Endie Wei.
All eyes were on Tu Endie Wei (Johar) making her grass bow at 3-5, but as the Sovereign Award winner faded tamely, Dene Court put on a show of grit and heart here as she battled back to a first stakes success while making her initial turf foray. A wire-to-wire winner sprinting five furlongs on debut at Woodbine last June, she finished a game second to Judy the Beauty (Ghostzapper) in the 5 1/2-furlong, $150,000 Shady Well S. in mid-July, but then went to the sidelines. The chestnut was a 9-5 chance in the seven-furlong Fury S. at Woodbine Apr. 29 and ran a good one again, finishing second to Northern Passion (First Samurai) by 1 3/4 lengths, and was the 3-1 second pick here. Dene Court was up from post two and cut out the running over ground with some give in it, getting to the quarter in :23 as Man Stuff (Belong to Me) and Tu Endie Wei tracked intently. The trio lined up three abreast at the quarter pole, but Tu Endie Wei began to spin her wheels as Blue Heart (Exchange Rate) took her place as the main threat. But Dene Court wasn't through along the rail, and battled on gamely to win by a half-length. Blue Heart held for second, while Man Stuff dead-heated for third with the hard-charging Sky Dreamer (Sky Mesa), who like the winner is trained by Mark Casse. Click for the brisnet.com chart.
