TDN MAGAZINE, The International Difference: Part III of A Painful Truth: "Welfare in Europe means to train the horse without any chemicals and make him race if he can face the challenge,” says France Galop's Dr. Roland Devolz. “In your country, welfare means to be allowed to use as many drugs as possible to ensure the horse will support training and race." Whose version is right? Part 3 of A Painful Truth examines North America's singular stance on medication. Download part three by clicking here.

Black Caviar Ruled Out of Melbourne Spring Carnival

Black Caviar (Aus) (Bel Esprit {Aus}) will miss the upcoming Melbourne spring carnival, trainer Peter Moody announced today. Set for a break after her exploits at Royal Ascot when extending her unbeaten run to 22 in the G1 Diamond Jubilee S., her future will be decided later in the year. "We have two options. If we retire her after that meeting she's still got plenty of time to go to stud. Otherwise, we will give her a decent spell and bring her back for the autumn," he told the Herald Sun. "She's just needed time to get over her trip to England. She's had a really busy time in the past year or so and just needs a break to get over it. She's fine in herself and she's recovered from her injuries, but it would be asking a lot of her to have only a couple of weeks off and then be ready for the spring." Black Caviar, who has won the carnival's G2 Schillaci S., G2 Schweppes S. and G1 Patinack Farm Classic for the past two years, will also sidestep the G1 Hong Kong Sprint at Sha Tin in December.
