ASHAAR (c, 2, Into Mischief-Well Spring, by Coronado's Quest) turned in a good-looking debut win at Belmont Park Saturday afternoon. The 9-2 shot was placed in a tracking second, made a flashy move to inhale the leader approaching the quarter pole and was geared down late to graduate by 2 1/2 lengths. Starting Over (Liam's Map) was second. The final time for seven furlongs was 1:22.52. Ashaar is a half-brother to Mendip (Harlan's Holiday), MGSW-UAE, $887,500; Dig Deep (Candy Ride {Arg}), SW, $125,600; and Paddle Board (Harlan's Holiday), GSP, $183,774. Well Spring is out of GI Test and Ballerina winner Chaposa Springs (Baldski), who is a half to GI Met Mile winner You and I (Kris S.), and has a yearling Runhappy colt who sold for $300,000 at KEESEP. She was bred back to Practical Joke. Sales history: $650,000 yrl '18 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
