Into Mischief Colt Kicks Home Quickly at the Spa

Aveenu Malcainu | Sarah K Andrew

5th-SAR, $73,000, (S), Msw, 7-28, 2yo, 5 1/2f, 1:04.40, ft.
+AVEENU MALCAINU (c, 2, Into Mischief–Island Time {SW, $238,354}, by Trippi), given a 4-1 debut chance for a barn whose juveniles have been coming out running, finished with a flourish to run down fellow OBS April grad ($130K) Smokin Platinum (Mission Impazible) and don cap and gown by 3/4 of a length. Traveling in midpack early while out in the clear behind splits of :22.51 and :45.92, the bay advanced around the bend as Smokin Platinum looked like he might blow the race apart with an aggressive move. Continuing on with giant strides, Aveenu Malcainu eventually wore down the leader and was taken in hand crossing under the wire. A $125,000 KEESEP yearling RNA, the winner brought $150,000 at OBS April after breezing a quarter in :21 4/5. Dam Island Time, a stakes winner routing on the grass, produced a filly by Munnings this season. Trainer Jeremiah Englehart has also been represented by fellow New York-bred juvenile I Still Miss You (Majestic Warrior) this term. The filly bested open company to go two-for-two in Belmont's June 8 Astoria S., and was most recently second in the restricted Lynbrook S. July 16. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $43,800.
