International Entries For Emir's Sword

A number of international entries have been received for the feature races at Qatar's Emir's Sword Festival–including the HH The Emir's Trophy and the HH The Emir's Sword, both local Group 1 races worth $1 million–Feb. 26 to 28. The European contingent nominated to face off against Qatar Derby dead-heaters Tannaaf (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}) and Rogue Runner (Ger) (King's Best) in the Emir's Trophy include Agent Murphy, Tashaar (Ire) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) and Afonso de Sousa (Henrythenavigator). Also expected for the $200,000 Qatar International Thoroughbred Cup is the Richard Hannon-trained Moheet (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}) and French shipper Snaad (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}). UK-based trainers Marco Botti, Karl Burke, Richard Hannon and Brian Meehan have entered horses in the $250,000 Katara Sprint Cup.

Nasser Al Kaabi, general manager of the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club, said, “The 2016 Emir's Sword Festival is our most prestigious race meeting of the year in Qatar and we are pleased to have attracted such a strong international entry. I am particularly pleased to see the victorious Qatar Derby International Festival horses in Perkunas, Rogue Runner and Tannaaf all returning to Qatar.”
