Harbour Watch Colt A Rising Star

Harbour Watch | Tweenhills

British-based shuttler Harbour Watch (Ire) wrapped up his first season with runners in Australia with two winners on the board, his A$124,580 in earnings placing him 11th on the first-season sires table, but the son of Acclamation could have a big spring flagbearer after Paret (Aus) posted a last to first win on debut at Canterbury on Wednesday, earning TDN Rising Star status. Bred by Qatar Bloodstock, which raced Harbour Watch in partnership, Paret was a A$110,000 purchase by Guy Mulcaster from Magic Millions last year. At least 10 lengths last early in the 1250 metre maiden as a swift pace unfolded up front, jockey Glyn Schofield opted to try his luck on the fence while still last as the field swung into the straight. With no gap materializing, the rider steered Paret to the outside passing the 200 metre mark and the dark bay exploded when he saw daylight, skipping past the field in a matter of strides with just one reminder from his rider. He won by a geared down three-quarters of a length from Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa's Icon Of Dubai (Aus) (High Chaparral {Ire}) (video). Schofield told Breednet.com.au of the colt, who has an entry in the G1 Caulfield Guineas, “He was way too good. He has a lot of ability and that race was full of depth. He's showing a lot of promise and Chris and his team will have a lot of fun placing him.”

Paret is the fifth foal out of the unraced Enduja, whose two runners include the three-time winner Australian Venture (Aus) (Lonhro {Aus}). She has a 2-year-old filly by Snitzel (Aus) and a colt foal by Charm Spirit (Ire), Harbour Watch's fellow Tweenhills shuttler who stands at Windsor Park Stud in New Zealand Southern Hemisphere time. Enduja is a half-sister to the G3 Meld S. winner Cajarian (Shahrastani) and the listed winner Very Sydney (Aus) (Danehill) as well as the dam of Group 1-winning sprinter and stakes producer Margot Did (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}). Enduja was bought by David Redvers for A$300,000 at Inglis's Broodmare Sale in 2011 and was sold on for NZ$21,000 in foal to Makfi this May in New Zealand.
