Gunnevera, Three Rules Work For FOY

A pair of prominent South Florida-based sophomores were each out for Saturday works as they prepare for their upcoming appearances in the GII Fountain of Youth S. at Gulfstream Park Mar. 4.

Peacock Racing Stables' Gunnevera (Dialed In) worked over five furlongs, stopping the clock in 1:01 at Gulfstream Park West, the third-fastest of 20 works at the distance. It was the first move for the GIII Delta Downs Jackpot S. hero since finishing runner-up to Irish War Cry (Curlin) in the GII Lambholm South Holy Bull S. Feb. 4.

“He's a very happy horse. He went very easy, very handily,” commented trainer Antonio Sano. “He galloped out in 1:14. I'm very excited about the horse.”

Three Rules (Gone Astray), recent runner-up to Favorable Outcome (Flatter) in the seven-furlong GII Swale S. Feb. 4, prepared for a stretchout back to two turns with a five-furlong drill over the Gulfstream Park main track that was timed in 1:01.77.

“It was a maintenance work. He just galloped around,” said trainer Jose Pinchin, whose stable star posted the seventh fastest of 30 works recorded for the five-furlong distance. “He handled it good. He came back real good.”

Three Rules was untouchable in his first five career starts, winning those by a combined 31 lengths, including a sweep of the Florida Stallion Stakes series. He suffered his first career defeat when a distant midpack sixth behind Classic Empire (Pioneerof the Nile) in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Nov. 5.
