Gun Runner Takes Home More Hardware as Horse of the Year

In what was pretty much a foregone conclusion–especially after he took home the hardware as champion older dirt male earlier in the evening–Winchell Thoroughbreds and Three Chimneys Farm's Gun Runner (Candy Ride {Arg}) was crowned Horse of the Year at Thursday evening's Eclipse Awards. The then 4-year-old turned in an excellent five-for-six season in 2017, with his lone defeat a runner-up effort behind Arrogate (Unbridled's Song) in the G1 Dubai World Cup. The Steve Asmussen pupil came back to the States better than ever, reeling off four dominant victories culminating in a comprehensive success in the GI Breeders' Cup Classic.
