Golden Horn, 'Pharoah' Will Not Meet

Anthony Oppenheimer with Golden Horn | Racing Post

The day after American Triple Crown winner American Pharoah (Pioneerof the Nile)'s overwhelming victory in the GI Haskell Invitational, Anthony Oppenheimer, owner-breeder of this year's unbeaten G1 Epsom Derby and G1 Eclipse S. winner Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}), was quick to dash dreams that the two may meet in the GI Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland Oct. 31. Oppenheimer told Racing Post there is “absolutely no way” Golden Horn will race on dirt, and he has repeatedly expressed that, like American Pharoah, his star will be retired at the end of this year.

It's a complete no-no, on dirt, certainly,” Oppenheimer told the publication. “First, it's quite a long bet for him to go to America anyway. Second, if we were to go to America he'd certainly only race on grass.”

American Pharoah's trainer, Bob Baffert, told Racing Post, “American Pharoah and Golden Horn are two different types of horse–I would never compare the two.”
