Giant's Causeway's Autostrade Motors Home at Gulfstream

AUTOSTRADE (c, 3, Giant's Causeway–Hot Trip {SP}, by Trippi), a good-looking $400,000 purchase at last year's OBS March sale, debuted with a sharp victory at Gulfstream for the Todd Pletcher barn Sunday. Hammering as the most expensive juvenile and fourth-most expensive lot overall from his sire in 2017 after breezing a furlong in :10 flat, the chestnut flashed talent in a string of Palm Beach Downs workouts, highlighted by a half-mile in :49 1/5 (1/5) Feb. 26. Taking the bulk of early money before drifting up to 12-5 by post, Autostrade was the first to leave the blocks and hooked up with fourth-timer Crafty Jack (Trajectory) through a :22.71 quarter. Starting to edge away from that rival at the five-sixteenths pole, he opened clear after straightening for home and finished up strong to score by five lengths. D Squared (Speightstown), who also took plenty of play for his unveiling, was a clear second despite running greenly in the stretch. The winner's dam, a $210,000 KEENOV buy in 2015 who is a full-sister to GISW R Heat Lightning, has a juvenile filly by Into Mischief. Sales History: $330,000 Wlg '15 KEENOV. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $28,800. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
