Giant's Causeway's Andina del Sur Finishes Fastest in FL Oaks

Giant's Causeway | Coolmore photo

Let go at generous odds of 13-1, Don Alberto Stable's ANDINA DEL SUR (f, 3, Giant's Causeway–Andina {Ire}, by Singspiel {Ire}) kicked hard in the final sixteenth of a mile and outfinished a game Goodthingstaketime (Ire) (Canford Cliffs {Ire}) in Saturday's GIII Florida Oaks at Tampa. Taken back to race in the latter third of the field early on, the homebred crept into about midfield entering the final half-mile and was left no choice but to travel deep on the turn. Following the move of Goodthingstaketime into the lane, Andina del Sur was switched off heels in upper stretch and managed to stick her neck across the line first. The well-bet U.S. debutante Altea (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) rallied stoutly from the back of the field to finish a close third. Andina del Sur is the second produce for her dam, purchased in foal to Invincible Spirit (Ire) for €280,000 at the 2013 Goffs November sale. Andina, a daughter of SW Fragrant Oasis (Rahy), is the dam of Street Sense fillies of 2016 and 2017 and was bred back to that Darley stallion. Lifetime Record: 4-2-0-2. O/B-Don Alberto Corp (KY); T-Tom Albertrani.
