Cliffs of Moher, a staying-on fifth at Cork in his only prior start Oct. 15, was rushed up to gain the lead after the first furlong here. Turning the screw on the home turn, the 7-2 shot, who is a full brother to a yearling filly and a colt foal, had all rivals beaten with a quarter mile remaining and maintained a relentless gallop in the closing stages to register an impressive 5 1/2-length success from stablemate Orderofthegarter (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). “He came on nicely from Cork where he was very green and suffered from stage-fright,” said winning trainer Aidan O'Brien. “Today he jumped, got a position, travelled well and won nicely. He's a nice colt and you'd have to be very happy with him. We've always thought he's a really nice colt and he stretched out well and finished well. He has plenty speed and could go for a Guineas Trial next spring.” Cliffs of Moher is the first winner out of a winning daughter of GSW G1 Irish 1000 Guineas and G1 Prix de Diane third Queen Cleopatra (Ire) (Kingmambo), herself a full-sister to MG1SW sire Henrythenavigator. His third dam is G1 Moyglare Stud S. victress Sequoyah (Ire) (Sadler's Wells), who is a full-sister to G1 Fillies' Mile-winning highweight Listen (Ire) (Sadler's Wells), who in turn is the dam of last year's GSW G1 Queen Elizabeth II Cup third Touching Speed (Jpn) (Deep Impact {Jpn}). Lifetime Record: 2-1-0-0, $11,342.
