Galileo's Alice Springs Wins the Sun Chariot

Alice Springs | Racing Post

Impressive when winning the G1 Falmouth S. on the July Course here July 8 and in the G1 Matron S. at Leopardstown Sept. 10, Alice Springs justified market confidence with an admirably straightforward defeat of Always Smile to carry her momentum into the autumn. Her record could arguably be more enhanced had she not met trouble in running when second in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and third in the G1 Coronation S. at Royal Ascot June 17 and were it not for two fruitless trips to France. Always travelling with menace in fourth, the bay was committed by Ryan Moore heading towards the “dip” and after gaining the edge over the Godolphin representative with a quarter mile to race asserted for a third group 1 win, with Ervedya signposting a possible return to something near her best in third. “She is an unbelievable filly. She is a real big powerhouse now,” trainer Aidan O'Brien said. “She has gone very pacey and has a lot of speed. She is a very exciting filly. She travels very strong and quickens very well. She might go to America for the Breeders' Cup Mile. She ran very well at Keeneland last year and is a very professional filly.” It is no surprise that Alice Springs is one of the faster Galileo's, being out of the highweight sprinter Aleagueoftheirown who has already produced the G3 Tyros S. third Kingston Jamaica (Ire) and G2 Ribblesdale S. and G2 Park Hill S. third Criteria (Ire) also by the Coolmore giant. The third dam is the G2 Nassau S. and G3 Musidora S. winner Optimistic Lass, who is responsible for the G1 Coronation S.-winning dual highweight Golden Opinion (Slew o' Gold), also runner-up in the G1 July Cup and third in the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches. Alice Springs has a yearling full-sister and foal full-brother to come.
