Frost Giant Firster Dominates Lynbrook

Miss Freeze | Adam Coglianese

Miss Freeze made a strong debut impression here, dominating the Belmont closing day feature Lynbrook S. as the lone first-timer in the state-bred field. Coming away in midpack as the second-longest shot in the field, the $150,000 OBSAPR buy settled fifth early on, about four lengths off a :22.84 quarter-mile. Dropping back to last midway on the turn, Miss Freeze began to advance along the rail passing the three-eighths pole, burst through a large inside opening at the top of the lane, took the lead outside the furlong grounds and strode away impressively. Wilburnmoney was second-best, with favored Paz the Bourbon checking in a disappointing third. The winner was a $57,000 Fasig-Tipton August grad who sold for 20 times her sire's stud fee after breezing :20 4/5 at OBS April (video). Her dam is a half to Royal Currier (Red Bullet), a seven-time stakes-winning sprinter who holds the six-furlong track record at Parx for his 1:07.51 clocking in winning the 2011 Gallant Bob S.

“Since day one, she's been straightforward and has handled everything perfect,” said winning conditioner David Cannizzo. “We worked her against older horses and younger horses. She's just been a dream. I figured this race would be a shorter field. The other race we [considered] was a 12-horse field. I didn't want to have a troubled trip. We're looking at a stakes [in Saratoga] in the middle of the meet for New York-bred fillies.”
