Freud Colt Up Late in 'Smart' Tremont Score

Our Braintrust | Sarah K. Andrew

Off the mark at first asking sprinting 4 1/2 furlongs at Laurel May 3, Our Braintrust became the 58th black-type winner for his sire in Friday's Tremont S. The second highest price on the board, the bay settled perfectly against the fence behind splits of :22.38 and :45.73. Sneaking through a gap at the rail inside the final 50 yards, the juvenile pipped longtime leader Mae Never No a few strides from the wire and the closing Sombeyay, who stole second.

“He's a nice horse,” said Charlie Lynch, son and assistant of winning trainer Cal Lynch. “His first race he proved that he can rate and he could come from behind horses and do everything right. He broke sharp and Javier [Castellano] gave him a great ride. They just sat off the pace and the rail opened up for him and he went right up there without being bothered at all. I talked to dad and he's so happy right now, he's crying. He's [by] a New York stallion so he's probably going to be coming up here for the New York series.”

Three-time winner Caller Trust has a yearling colt by Super Ninety Nine as her last known produce. Under the MSP third dam is Canadian champion grass horse and GSW & GISP Hasten to Add (Cozzene), as well as GI Selene S. heroine See How She Runs (Maria's Mon) and MGSW Don't Leave Me (Lemon Drop Kid).
