Former Jockey Sandy Hawley Joins Jockeys and Jeans

Hall of Famer Sandy Hawley has become a member of the organizing committee of Jockeys and Jeans, which has raised over a half-million dollars for PDJF. Hawley will oversee jockey's relations, replacing Hall of Famer Walter Blum who retired to become the group's first Member Emeritus. The Canadian-born Hawley, 67, is the first rider to win 500 races in a single year, led the national jockey standing in wins four years and won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey in 1976. He is also a member of Canada's racing Hall of Fame and Canada's Sports Hall of Fame.

“I think in general, Hawley joining our group is a testament to the racing community's willingness to participate in our cause,” said Jockeys and Jeans President, Barry Pearl. “In particular our committee is tickled to have a person who is known as much for his integrity as his riding ability. Sandy has much to give in many areas, and we're all thankful he chose to give back to the industry by directly aiding jockeys who suffered career ending injuries.”

Jockeys and Jeans will hold its fourth event June 3 at Parx. The group will again hold an online auction and live auction being planned for a special event in January.
