Laura Barry, a former apprentice jockey to trainer Richard Fahey, died on Friday aged 25 after a battle with cancer. Barry was due to be married on Saturday.
Fahey said at Newmarket on Saturday, “She was a wonderful girl and will be truly missed. She was loved by everyone. She was a very tough girl, but had been suffering for a long time. She was just such a star and never complained. She came over as an apprentice from Ireland. She was a very helpful and very kind person.”
Barry was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer in a leg in 2016. She underwent some treatments but with no chemotherapy available specific to her cancer, it spread to other organs.
