Cheltenham Festival winning jockey Mikey Fogarty has retired from race riding with immediate effect to pursue other interests. 27-year-old Fogarty rode 140 winners in his career with the highlight being victory aboard the Willie Mullins trained Don Poli (Ire) (Poliglote {Fr}) at Cheltenham in 2014. “I want to do other things, it is just a lifestyle choice to be honest,” Fogarty told the Racing Post on Monday. Fogarty is currently working with his brother Jonathan at the family's Gaynestown Stud in Wexford. The stud specialises in breeding, pinhooking and training both flat and national hunt horses. Fogarty is the second Cheltenham Festival winning jockey to retire in the last few days following Stephen Clement's decision to focus on other business interests after sighting weight problems as his reason to hang up his boots.
