OWNING (c, 2, Flashback–Meridian Mama, by Forestry)made quite an adventure out of his OBS April breeze, but still drilled a sharp time and brought a big number in the ring. Debuting Sunday at Los Alamitos, the gray showed some of that greenness, and plenty of his speed, to graduate impressively and become the first winner for his freshman sire (by Tapit). Zig-zagging about the track while nevertheless clocking a :10 1/5 breeze in Ocala, Owning brought $260,000, which stood as the second-highest figure for a Flashback juvenile during the 2018 sales season. Given a 33-10 chance in this career bow, the hulking colt balked a bit at the gate, but came away cleanly once the latches sprung and posted up outside of a three-way vanguard behind the pacesetter through a :22.35 quarter. Setting sail for the lead on the latter half of the turn, Owning kicked away past the eighth pole while running a bit erratically, and came home a convincing 2 1/2-length victor. Tariq (Into Mischief) was second best. The winner, a $60,000 FTKOCT yearling, has a yearling half-sister by Secret Circle and a Liam's Map half-brother of this season. Her dam is a half to last year's plucky GI Arkansas Derby runner-up Conquest Mo Money (Uncle Mo) and hails from the extended female family of Grade I winners Touch Gold and Brilliant Speed. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $24,000. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
