First Group 1 winner for Star Witness as Global Glamour takes Flight

The A$500,000 G1 Sydney Airport Flight S. went the way of Global Glamour (Aus) (Star Witness {Aus}), who was scooping her first top-flight triumph and gave her sire Star Witness (Aus) (Starcraft {NZ}), his first Group 1 winner.

“It is hard to describe,” said co-trainer Adrian Bott to Racing and Sports, who was winning his first Group 1, while co-trainer Gai Waterhouse was winning her ninth Flight S. “It is a very good feeling and one I will cherish forever.”

Headstrong leaving the stalls, the 5-1 shot tugged her way to the lead up the fence while pressed by Bridle Lane (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}) a half-length back and 4-5 favorite Yankee Rose (Aus), a winner of the G1 Inglis Sires' S., tanking along in last. Still traveling sweetly while saving all the ground as the field reached the 400-metre mark, pilot Tim Clark grew animated aboard Global Glamour and the response was instantaneous, as she sailed across the line a half-length to the good of the charging Yankee Rose, with Sezanne two lengths farther adrift.

“It has been a while since I have been in the Group 1 winner's stall,” said Clark. It is a great feeling.”

“It's like a dream come true,” added co-owner Anna Seitz, one of It's All About the Girls Syndicate organisers. “We are just having the best fun. We spoke yesterday and thought if she could run third and be Group 1 placed it would be incredible–but to win, it's amazing.”

Confessed the Kentucky-based Seitz, who works for Fasig-Tipton, “To be honest I didn't know a lot about the sire Star Witness, in fact the whole pedigree page didn't mean a lot to me being an American–but James [Bester] said what he liked and I trusted him. The filly herself was a good type. She wasn't really big, but she was well put together, had a really good hindquarter and a nice walk. We managed to put together a sensational syndicate–we have representatives from many sales companies around the world–there's almost 40 owners from seven countries.”

A winner of a 1000-metre maiden at Kembla Grange Jan. 30 to kick off her career, Global Glamour was spelled for over six months following that victory. Second and first, respectively in a pair of Randwick barrier trials Aug. 9 and Aug. 19, the bay ran third in Foxplay (Aus) (Foxwedge {Aus})'s G2 Fitzy & Wippa's Fast & Furious S. in heavy going Sept. 3 and she dropped to sixth stretched to 1400 metres in the G2 Tea Rose S., once again to Foxplay last out Sept. 17.

Pedigree Notes:

Global Glamour is by 2010/2011 Australian champion 3-year-old colt Star Witness, who also ran with credit in the Northern Hemisphere, taking second in the G1 King's Stand S. and third in the G1 Golden Jubilee S. at Royal Ascot in 2011. Global Glamour is his fifth stakes winner and first Group 1 winner. Sold for A$65,000 as lot 663 from the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Global Glamour is the lone winner from three runners for her dam, the winning Spectacula (Aus) (Testa Rossa {Aus}). Spectacula, out of a winning half-sister to the SP Bingham(Aus) (Distant Music) won twice at 1000 metres and her last known foal is a colt of 2015 by Reset (Aus).
