Fillies Hold The Key For MM Classic

Madeenaty | Racing And Sports

The last session of Book 1 at Magic Millions takes place after an exciting day of racing at the Gold Coast that includes the featured Jeep Magic Millions 2YO Classic worth A$2,000,000. Last year's winner 'TDN Rising Star' Capitalist (Aus) (Written Tycoon {Aus}) used the race as a springboard to Group 1 success when he followed up in the G1 Golden Slipper at Rosehill last March. Capitalist had also won the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO en route to victory last year and one of Saturday's challengers Madeenaty (Aus) (Exceed And Excel {Aus}) bids to follow a similar path following her success in the same race at Wyong Dec 22. Trained by the Hayes/Dabernig alliance Madeenaty was previously third to the re-opposing Invincible Star (Aus) (I Am Invincible {Aus}) in the G3 Ottowa S. at Flemington Nov. 1 and her jockey Mark Zahra is confident of a prominent showing today. “Her work the other day was sensational,” Zahra told Racing And Sports. “There's been a couple of impressive ones, there's no doubt about that, but I still think she's got a great chance.”

Fillies hold a strong hand in the event with the Waterhouse/Bott trained Invincible Star, Houtzen (Aus) (I Am Invincible {Aus}) and 'TDN Rising Star' From Within (Aus) all holding strong claims in the 1200m contest. Madeenaty will jump from stall one and Zahra feels that gives him a definite advantage over some of his well-fancied opponents. “I think she's drawn well and I don't think we'll lead,” he said. “I'd love to just have a little bunny to follow I reckon, but I'm definitely not going to be strangling her either to give it up if I can lob there easy. They're going to have to come across. Gai's horse [Invincible Star] and Houtzen are going to have to go forward too.” The Shadwell Australasia owned filly will be fitted with blinkers with connections keen to leave nothing to chance in such a valuable race. “We're going to be first four and the blinkers are just going to help give us a bit of focus, and her work with one to chase was as good as you get the other morning,” Zahra added.

The Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas also sees a huge prize up for grabs and the many prominent female members of the global bloodstock industry who share ownership of the aptly named Global Glamour (Aus) (Star Witness {Aus}) will be hoping their already dual Group 1 winning filly can resume her exciting run of success. The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trainee needs to show the benefit of an underwhelming return at Eagle Farm Dec. 31 to figure here but with so many of her international owners in town for the sales her trainers are sure to have her at concert pitch for this assignment.
