Figures Steady At Arqana

Friday's session topper is closely related to Dabirsim | Scoop Dyga

Arqana's four-day October Yearling Sale of French-bred yearlings drew to a close on Friday with a small final session that contributed €1,052,000 to the cumulative aggregate of €20,526,500. That number was up 7.1% on last year (when it had climbed 23%) with 490 sold, 31 more than last year, and the rest of the figures were similar to 2016. The average of €41,891 was up very slightly (0.3%), while the median dipped 10% to €27,000. The clearance rate was 80.9%, compared to 79.4% last year. For the first time in the history of the sale, six vendors collected total receipts in excess of €1-million.

Reflecting on the four days of trade, Arqana President Eric Hoyeau said, “Above all, I am pleased for our vendors, who work hard to invest in better mares and better nominations: our mission is to help them sell their production at the best market price to continue fuelling their development, especially as nominations and overall costs have been on the up over the past few years. I would also like to thank our buyers, old and new, who travelled from all corners of France and Europe to buy at the October sale. I am thrilled for them as I believe they now have some very good individuals in their hands. Moreover, virtually all yearlings sold are eligible for the 2018 October sale Criterium, which will offer an exciting and valuable opportunity to have a runner on Arc weekend in the brand new ParisLongchamp.”

The highlight of Friday's session was Haras de Meautry's Cacique (GB) colt (lot 547), who sold to Powerstown Stud for €42,000. The bay is out of the twice-placed Istriane (Ire) (Slickly {Fr}), a half-sister to dual Group 1 winner and standout French first-season sire Dabirsim (Fr) (Hat Trick {Jpn}), as well as the stakes-placed Preferred Yield (High Yield). The third dam is the G1 Oaks d'Italia winner Bright Generation.

Dabirsim was the leading sire by average at the sale, with 13 selling for an average of €109,615.
