February Sale Opens In Deauville

Wootton Bassett | Haras d'Etreham

The Arqana February sale began in Deauville on Tuesday with an increased clearance rate of 78% for 157 broodmares, fillies and short yearlings. The aggregate was €990,500, the average €6,975 and the median €4,000. Because the sale was expanded to two days this year, comparisons will be published after Wednesday's second session.

Tuesday's session was topped by a trio that made €37,000 apiece. Two of those were flat offerings. The 10-year-old stakes-winning mare Glory Power (Ire) (Medicean {GB}) (Lot 148) was sold not in foal, the buyer listed as anonymous. Later in the day, Alban Chevalier Du Fau went to the co-topping price for a yearling colt by Wootton Bassett (GB) (Lot 199) from the extended family of Bago and Maxios. The third horse to reach the top mark was the National Hunt stakes producer Oryade (Fr) (Laveron), who was bought by Guy Petit while not in foal.

Sandrine Gavilan went to €29,000 for the 11-year-old stakes producer Moonlight Cass (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) (Lot 75) in foal to Intello (Ger). Another leading French-based sire, Siyouni (Fr), provided the second-highest priced foal, a colt (lot 205) secured by Agence Fips for €27,000.
