February Sale Catalogue Released

Edmond Mahony | Racing Post

A long selling day is in store at Tattersalls Feb. 4 as the Newmarket sales company has packed 387 lots into it's first sale of 2016. The catalogue can be viewed online at www.tattersalls.com and comprises broodmares, fillies/horses in training, weanlings and 2-year-olds. One of the reasons for a record number catalogued is the presence of a strong draft, numbering 60, from Godolphin. As one would expect there are some attractive pedigrees among the draft including lot 155 the winning 3-year-old filly Soofiah (GB) (Kings Best), a full-sister to dual Group 1 winner Sajjhaa (GB). Godolphin also offer some choice broodmares including lot 137 Desert Sunrise (GB) (Green Desert). The 6-year-old is a half sister to Group 1 winner Primo Valentino (Ire) (Primo Dominie {GB}) and Group 2 winner Dora Carrington (Ire) (Sri Pekan). She foaled a filly by Dawn Approach (Ire) (New Approach {Ire}) in 2015 and will be offered in foal to Iffraaj (GB) (Zafonic). Fashionable (GB) (Nashwan), the dam of Classic placed Jack Naylor (GB) (Champs Elysees {GB}) was bought from the Juddmonte draft at the February Sale in 2012 for 10,000gns and an 18 strong draft this time around from Juddmonte features 11 fillies and mares. Among the standouts on pedigree is lot 269 Almeda (GB) (Champs Elysees {GB}). The unraced 3-year old is a half-sister to MG1SP and GSW Phoenix Tower (Chester House). Lot 275 Winterton (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) also appeals on paper as a half-sister to international stakes winner Excess Knowledge (GB) (Monsun {Ger}), out of the stakes winner Quenched (GB) (Dansili {GB}). The February Sale also provides an opportunity for pin-hookers to get involved and a selection of weanlings by proven commercial sires should see traders getting in on the action. A few horses in training that could appeal to both overseas and domestic trainers are lot 210 Zebstar (Ire) (Zebedee {GB}), rated 95 and placed fourth in the G1 Darley Prix Morny and lot 231 The Steward (Street Cry {Ire}) a 93 rated dual winner from the yard of Sir Mark Prescott.

Commenting on the catalogue Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said, “The Tattersalls February Sale has been a great source of quality breeding stock in its short history. This year's renewal looks a typically commercial catalogue with plenty to attract both domestic and international buyers to Park Paddocks. As usual the sale will be preceded by the ever popular TBA Stallion Parade which starts at 9.30am followed immediately by the sale.”
