1st-NBY, £8,000, Mdn, 10-22, 2yo, f, 8fT, 1:41.78, g/s.
+CRIMSON ROCK (f, 2, Fastnet Rock {Aus}–Maryinsky {Ire} {G1SP-Eng}, by Sadler's Wells), a $1million KEESEP yearling, was sent off the 7-2 joint-favourite for the same maiden her trainer won four years ago with his future luminary Secret Gesture (GB) (Galileo {Ire}) and dived right exiting the stalls before racing in rear but comfortably in touch. Forced to close down the outer of the pack towards the stand's side, the half-sister to the G1 Irish Oaks, G1 Yorkshire Oaks, G1 Nassau S. and G1 Pretty Polly S. heroine Peeping Fawn (Danehill), Ch. 3yo Filly-Eur, Hwt. 3yo Filly-Ire at 9 1/2-10 1/2f & 11-13f, MG1SW-Eng & Ire, $1,387,274, and the G1 Criterium International hero and sire Thewayyouare (Kingmambo), G1SW-Fr, $340,968, showed a willing attitude to enter contention inside the last quarter mile. Getting to the other joint-favourite Elas Ruby (GB) (Raven's Pass) with 50 yards remaining, the bay was mainly hand ridden to assert by a neck. Ralph Beckett was highly encouraged by the performance and told the Racing Post, “Crimson Rock is a nice filly and will always appreciate a bit of juice in the ground. I know Mr Gosden's [Elas Ruby] was pretty exposed, but they have pulled clear and this is often a decent maiden. She has done well to win as she got a swipe out of the stalls and was left racing almost alone away from the others and that can be difficult, but she made her ground well. She will get further next year with her breeding.” Maryinsky, who was runner-up in the G1 Fillies Mile for Ballydoyle, is out of the GI Kentucky Oaks, GI Santa Susana S. and GI Ashland S. heroine Blush with Pride (Blushing Groom {Fr}), whose clutch of classy progeny are headed by Better Than Honour (Deputy Minister). Successful in the GI Demoiselle S. and runner-up in the GI Acorn S., she produced the GI Belmont S., GI Kentucky Oaks, GI Santa Anita Oaks and GI Las Virgenes S.-winning champion Rags To Riches (A.P. Indy), as well as the GII Peter Pan S. winner and G1 February S. runner-up Casino Drive (Mineshaft), the fellow Belmont-winning sire Jazil and Breeders' Cup Marathon scorer Man of Iron (Giant's Causeway). Another of Blush With Pride's daughters, the G2 Prix d'Astarte and G3 Prix de Sandringham winner and G1 Coronation S. runner-up Smolensk (Danzig), was responsible for the GIII Affirmed S. scorer and GI Del Mar Futurity third Can the Man (Into Mischief), while her best son was the G3 Beresford S. winner and G2 Royal Lodge S. runner-up Turnberry Isle (Ire) (Deputy Minister). The third dam is the esteemed Best in Show (Traffic Judge), producer of the champion Malinowski, fellow sire Gielgud and G1 Phoenix S. runner-up Monroe (Sir Ivor). She went on to throw her own champion in the G1 Prix de la Salamandre and G1 Dewhurst S. hero Xaar (GB), while her unraced half-sister Sex Appeal (Buckpasser) achieved notoriety as the dam of the great El Gran Senor and fellow champion Try My Best. Still to come from Maryinsky is a yearling colt and filly foal by War Front, who she has been bred back to. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $6,330. Video, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
