Fair Grounds Put Under Quarantine

Fair Grounds Race Course, which already had two barns in quarantine, was put under complete quarantine Monday morning after two horses spiked temperatures. The track's Barn 14 had been under a two-week quarantine after a pair of horses tested positive for EHV-1 last week. A third horse tested positive for a different strain of the virus Sunday, leading to the quarantine of Barn 36. Monday's development led Fair Grounds officials to immediately stop the shipment of horses into or out of the track's backstretch. By Monday evening, track officials had confirmed one of the horses with an elevated temperature, stabled with Tom Amoss in Barn 14, had returned a negative result, while the second, trained by Chris Davis and stabled in the receiving barn, returned a positive for the 'wild strain' also found in Barn 36. As a result, the quarantine timeline on Barn 14 remains unchanged, with a current end date of Jan. 13, at the discretion of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture. The receiving barn is now under quarantine until Jan. 16.
