Following the successful return of 2017 G1 Golden Slipper heroine She Will Reign (Aus) (Manhattan Rain {Aus}) in the G1 Moir S. at Moonee Valley on Sept. 29, the Gary Portelli-trained dark bay gained her pilot for the A$10-million G1 The Everest at Randwick in Corey Brown, racenet.com.au reported. The 3-year-old will bear only 112 pounds in the race and face 11 others (see table below) barring scratches prior to Oct. 14.
Originally planned to be ridden by Ben Melham before that jockey announced he could not make the weight, She Will Reign was slated to have Kerrin McEvoy next, who rode her with so much success in the Moir. That hoop decided to honour a previous commitment to the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained Redzel (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}), leaving She Will Reign once again without a jockey. Everest hopeful In Her Time (Aus) (Time Thief {Aus}), who had the services of Brown en route to a win in the 1200m G2 Premier S. on Sept. 30, was overlooked by slot holders and did not make the Everest field, leaving Brown free to ride She Will Reign.
