Heartbreak City (Fr) (Lando {Ger}) is to be prepared for the G1 Emirates Melbourne Cup after Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock bought into the Ebor winner.
Original owners, Here For The Craic Partnership, have retained an interest in the 6-year-old who will be trained for the 'race that stops a nation' by his current handler Tony Martin.
Heartbreak City was allotted 117 pounds for the Flemington showpiece on Nov. 1, when the new part-owners will hope to win the showpiece event for the first time after near-misses with Jakkalberry (Ire) (Storming Home {GB}) (third in 2012) and Dandino (GB) (Dansili {GB}) (fifth in 2013).
Confirmation that Heartbreak City is heading to Australia means the Lando gelding will not run in the Betfred Cesarewitch at Newmarket on Saturday week.
“An Australian group have got involved, I don't know what percentage, but the original men are still very much there,” said County Meath-based Martin. “He was in the Cesarewitch, he was in a lot of things, but the intention is to set him qualified for quarantine and send him for the Melbourne Cup. It's a handicap. He's in off a racing weight and he has a right to be there.”
Martin added: “As for who will ride him, the people out there have put forward about six names in the frame. There's nothing confirmed. We'll be listening to their advice and see how we go. Our men are still very much involved. The intention is to go to Melbourne and take it from there.”
