Eagle Mountain Steals the Show in Hong Kong

When Mike de Kock sends one in for one of the major race meetings on the calendar, you sit up and take notice. The South African trainer, who has done just that with increasing frequency and success over the past handful of years, struck again Sunday, saddling Eagle Mountain (GB) (c, 4, Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}) to a mild upset in the G1 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup. Local favorite Viva Pataca (GB) (Marju {Ire}) was a terribly unlucky fourth, though may not have been good enough to catch the winner in any case. In the other Group 1 events, Doctor Dino (Fr) (h, 6, Muhtathir {GB}) and Good Ba Ba (g, 6, Lear Fan) successfully defended their Vase and Mile titles, respectively, while Inspiration (Aus) (g, 5, Flying Spur {Aus}) upset the Sprint at 66-1, with hot favorite Apache Cat (g, 6, Lion Cavern) third.
