Downtime For Hannon Stars

Richard Hannon has decided to give two of his high profile horses a mid season break following recent disappointing efforts from the pair. Tiggy Wiggy (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}) made a bright start to the season when third in the G1 1000 Guineas at Newmarket but failed to build on that when well beaten in the G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot and her trainer feels some down time is now required. “I think the ground was probably a little bit quick for Tiggy Wiggy. We scoped her when she came back and there was nothing wrong with her. She was a very good 2-year-old and had a fair bit of racing and I would say she just had a hard race in the Classic.” Even if Tiggy Wiggy never wins another race, as a Group 1 winning filly she has assured her value as a future broodmare.

Her stablemate Ivawood (Ire) (Zebedee {GB}) was also third in his Classic, the G1 2000 Guineas before disappointing in the G3 Jersey S. and according to Hannon is also set for a break from the racecourse. Despite his recent reversal Hannon maintains faith in the handsome 3-year-old and has his eye on some lofty late season targets. “Ivawood is having a break, too,” Hannon confirmed before adding. “There's lot of nice races for him, including some in France. Physically he couldn't look any better and I have a feeling he'll come back towards the end of the year and then we might look at something like the Breeders' Cup.”
