Overlooked at 11-1 despite a half-mile bullet in :48 flat at Keeneland Sept. 18, the bay seized the early advantage, clocking an opening quarter in :22.04 with Crosswalk breathing down his neck. The chalk drew even with Quip turning for home and the pair battled to the wire with Quip determinedly pushing his way past Crosswalk in the dying strides for the narrowest of victories.
