On the eve of the announcement of the field for the R5-million G1 Sun Met, internationally renowned jockey Frankie Dettori has been booked to ride reigning G1 Vodacom Durban July S. winner The Conglomerate (Aus) (Lonhro {Aus}) in the 2000-metre test at Kenilworth Racecourse Jan. 28. The Italian is scheduled to have a minimum of four rides on the 13-race programme, with mounts in the CTS Mile, the G1 Betting World Cape Flying Championship and the G1 Investec Cape Derby in addition to the Met.

“Frankie Dettori has worked with Investec for the last three years as our ambassador for the Investec Derby Festival at Epsom Downs racecourse in the UK; everyone at Investec is thrilled that Frankie will be riding at this year's Met,” commented Janet Larsen, head of Group Marketing at Investec SA. “Frankie Dettori has enjoyed global success on the international horseracing stage and we look forward to welcoming him to Cape Town.”

Also expected to add some international flavour to the program is French jockey Stephane Pasquier, who is taking part in four race meetings in South Africa, culminating with an appearance on Met day, though he has yet to secure a mount for the main event.
