Roger Curtis, 68, Passes Away

Former trainer Roger Curtis has died at the age of 68 after a long battle with cancer, The Racing Post Reported on Monday. Curtis was based latterly in Lambourn and during his training career he saddled 248 winners across both codes, the last one coming in 2013 when Elegant Olive (GB) (Alflora {Ire}) won at Huntingdon. While predominantly a national hunt trainer Curtis enjoyed success on the flat most notably with Zafisio (Ire) (Efisio {GB}) who he took over the training of in 2009 following his Lambourn neighbour Paul Blockley's ban from training. Zafisio won a pair of Group 3 races in France and Germany for Curtis that year and also finished second in the G2 Mehl-Mulhens-Rennen at Cologne in Germany. Curtis is survived by his partner Dawn and three children from his first marriage, Jos, Ned and Capella.
