Champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa is expected to be out four to six weeks after suffering a broken collarbone in a fall at Chelmsford on Friday evening.
De Sousa and his mount Alnadir (Noble Mission {GB}) came down before the furlong marker when squeezed for room during the card's fourth race. The Simon Crisford-trained Alnadir was quickly back on his feet and appeared to emerge unscathed. Apprentice Theodore Ladd was given a 10-day ban for careless riding for his involvement in the incident.
De Sousa was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and his agent Shelley Dwyer said on Saturday, “He's back home, he has fractured his collarbone and a couple of vertebra, but it could have been much worse. He's battered and bruised and really sore–it was one of those falls that when you saw it you knew it didn't look good. At the moment I think we are looking at four to six weeks.”
