MAGNOLIA SPRINGS (IRE) (f, 2, Shamardal–Rainbow City {Ire}, by Rainbow Quest), sent off at 25-1, was anchored in rear of the tightly-packed field throughout the opening stages by Charles Bishop and made eye-catching progress between rivals passing halfway. Coaxed to the front approaching the furlong pole, the €105,000 GOFORB yearling stayed on powerfully to register a 3 1/2-length success from Melodies (GB) (Iffraaj {GB}). Veracious (GB) (Frankel {GB}), the half-sister to Mutakayyef (GB) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) out of the MG1SP Infallible (GB) (Pivotal {GB}), held every chance inside the final quarter mile but was unable to match the winner’s pace and finished a head away in third. The winner is the sixth foal to race for the Ballymacoll representative Rainbow City, who was second on the first of her two starts for the Sir Michael Stoute stable behind L’Ancresse (Ire) (Darshaan {GB}) in this race in 2002. She is a full-sister to the G2 Geoffrey Freer S. winner Multicoloured (Ire) and a half to the former Freemason Lodge stalwart Gamut (Ire), whose victories included the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, G2 Jockey Club S. and G2 Princess of Wales’s S. and who was also runner-up in the G1 Irish St Leger. This is the family of another Irish Leger placegetter in Saddler’s Rock (Ire) (Sadler’s Wells), the G2 Doncaster Cup and G2 Goodwood Cup-winning half-brother to the G2 Blandford S. scorer and G1 Epsom Oaks runner-up Tarfasha (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) and also Galileo Rock (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) who placed in the G1 English and Irish Derbys and G1 St Leger. The dam, who is also connected to the GI E. P. Taylor S. and GII Sheepshead Bay S. winner Tannery (Ire) (Dylan Thomas {Ire}) and one of Ballymacoll’s most memorable recent runners, the G1 Epsom Derby-winning sire North Light (Ire), has a yearling daughter of Dawn Approach (Ire) and a filly foal by War Command. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $13,950. Video, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
