Dacita Gives Brown a Record Fourth Beverly D. Win

Dacita | Four Footed Fotos

Sent off at a generous 13-2 in Saturday's GI Beverly D. S. at Arlington Park, Dacita kicked home fastest of all to give trainer Chad Brown a record fourth victory in the race and third in succession.

Drawn gate one, Dacita was away without incident and dropped out to the latter third of the field as Zipessa (City Zip), a pacesetting third in last year's Beverly D., cut out the early fractions in advance of G1 Darley Irish Oaks runner-up Rain Goddess (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). The well-backed Grand Jete settled midfield, with favored Dona Bruja to her outside and Dacita on her back as they raced out of the stretch. Continuing to hug the fence turning down the backside, Dacita was eased out a path or two by Irad Ortiz to slipstream Dona Bruja, who had won her two U.S. races with dazzling late moves, but was allowed to challenge for the lead with about five-sixteenths of a mile to travel in the D. Hawksmoor, who had been allowed to roll up into a pace-pressing position mid-race, was first to face the judge turning for home, but Dona Bruja had that move covered and hit the front three off the inside at the furlong grounds. But Dacita, who circled outside the eventual winner off the home corner, had the slightly better turn of foot and surged to the wire first.

The hard-luck story of the afternoon was Grand Jete. The Juddmonte runner was given an inside trip by Joel Rosario, but lacked any opportunity at any point to get off the fence. Hopelessly locked away at the eighth pole, she finally ran to daylight and did exceptionally well to share second.

A treble Group 1 winner in her native Chile, Dacita defeated none other than Tepin (Bernstein) in the GII Ballston Spa S. in her U.S. debut in 2015 and added a nose success for a first American Grade I in last year's Diana S. Narrowly runner-up behind Hawksmoor (Ire) (Azamour {Ire}) in the GIII Beaugay S. over ground likely easier than she prefers at Belmont May 13, she was exiting a never-nearer sixth to Hawksmoor in the GII New York S. June 9. It was the second trip to the Beverly D. winner's circle in three years for part-owner for Pete Bradley, who also campaigned 2015 promoted winner Watsdachances (Ire) (Diamond Green {Fr}) in partnership. Brown won his first Beverly D. in 2011 with Stacelita (Fr) (Monsun {Ger}) and was successful with Sea Calisi (Fr) (Youmzain {Ire}) last year.

Pedigree Notes:
Dacita is one of 21 Grade I/Group 1 winners and one of 11 champions for the late Scat Daddy, who passed away at the tail end of 2015 and is represented by his final crop of yearlings this season. Daja's last listed produce is the newly-turned 4-year-old filly Dalma (Chi) (Lookin at Lucky).
