Canada's two-time champion jockey Eurico Rosa da Silva begins a one-month riding contract in Hong Kong Wednesday with four mounts on the Happy Valley card.

Da Silva, a Brazilian who has also ridden in Macau and Singapore, described his upcoming stint in Hong Kong as a “privilege.”

“I'm ready for this new challenge in my life here in Hong Kong,” he said. “It's a great privilege to be here and every day I will give my best.”

“I ride a certain way and I will see how I go,” da Silva added. “I try to be very connected to the horses I ride and see what they want to do; I will do the same here and they will give their best.”

Da Silva said his desire to someday ride in Hong Kong arose during his time in nearby Macau.

“Hong Kong racing is first class, very professional, and for you to be here you need to be the top in every department,” he continued. “If you're second best then you don't belong in Hong Kong. For me, it's a privilege to be invited in to be part of this team.”
