Curlin Half Sis to Maclean's Music Makes the Grade at Keeneland

Electric Forest, whose dam Forest Music and half-brother and sire Maclean's Music (Distorted Humor) were both brilliantly fast, saw out two turns effectively Friday to make the grade. A debut winner sprinting here last April, the dark bay was off the board at even money in an optional claimer on GI Kentucky Oaks day the following month. She resurfaced to defeat a pair of next-out winners going seven panels at Aqueduct Nov. 17, and was most recently second in the sloppy, one-mile GIII Rampart S. at Gulfstream Dec. 15. Finding similarly wet conditions on seasonal debut here, the homebred broke well from her rail draw and was ridden along by Jose Ortiz to grab a clear lead hitting the first bend. She posted splits of :24.25 and :47.93 as Go Google Yourself–a last-out upsetter of Wonder Gadot (Medaglia d'Oro)–ratcheted up the pressure. That rival continued to give game chase in the lane, but Electric Forest kept finding to hang on despite drifting out some.

“She broke really sharp, and that helped me a lot out of the one hole,” said Ortiz, who was celebrating his third win on the card, each with Chad Brown trainees. “With the track being speed-favoring, I wasn't afraid to go out there (to the lead). She relaxed very good (down the backstretch), but we picked it up pretty good. When we passed the sixteenth pole, she made the lead and stayed there. The filly gave me another run.”

Pedigree Notes:

Electric Forest is the product of a pair of Stonestreet colorbearers and both sire Curlin and Maclean's Music stand at John Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Farm. She is the 59th stakes winner and 26th graded winner for Curlin, and the 162nd black-type winner and 86th graded winner out of a daughter of Unbridled's Song. Stonestreet's 'TDN Rising Star' Valadorna (Curlin) took the Doubledogdare in 2018. Forest Music, who was acquired privately by Stonestreet before annexing the 2005 GII Honorable Miss H. at Saratoga, has an Uncle Mo 2-year-old colt who cost $250,000 at Keeneland September. She aborted to Bernardini last term, but produced a full-brother to Electric Forest Feb. 4 and is back in foal to Curlin, Stonestreet told TDN.
