Cracksman Doubtful For King George

John Gosden is holding fire on a decision to run Cracksman (GB) (Frankel {GB}) in next weekend's G1 QIPCO King George VI & Queen Elizabeth S. Gosden is loathe to run Anthony Oppenheimer's colt unless ground conditions ease at Ascot, especially since Cracksman got well beaten by current King George favourite Poet's Word (Ire) (Poet's Voice {GB}) on his last visit to the track in the G1 Prince of Wales's S. when the ground rode good to firm. “We'll leave Cracksman in the King George at the five-day stage on Monday, but unless they get one of these thunderstorms that may come up from France he won't be running,” Gosden told Racing Post on Saturday. Cracksman ran quite lazily on his last start and his trainer is not too concerned about missing these mid-season races, given the horse showed such high class form last autumn. “He's in a few places including York but his main target is the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, which we'll be working towards,” he added.
