COSMIC BURST (f, 2, Violence&log=">Violence–Peggy Ring, by Ghostzapper) became the 16th individual first-crop winner for her sire (by Medagalia d'Oro) and second on the Keeneland program with a narrow graduation. Stretching out to two turns off a runner-up effort in a six-furlong Churchill maiden Sept. 21, the bay argued the pace under a snug hold while maintaining a spot at the rail. Given some rein with about three furlongs to travel, the Pennsylvania-bred cut the corner for home under a right-handed stick and found the line in the nick of time to take it by a short neck as the 8-5 favorite. The tough-luck story of the race was first-starter Eskimo Kisses (To Honor and Serve), who walked out of the gate and spotted her rivals some five lengths. She made steady inside progress down the backstretch and rallied smartly in the final furlong, but just missed while covering 16 extra feet (about 1 3/4 lengths) than the winner, according to Trakus. The dam of a colt by Winchill, Peggy Ring was most recently bred to Danza. Sales history: $20,000 Ylg '16 EASJAN; $25,000 Ylg '16 KEESEP. Lifetime Record: 2-1-1-0, $39,480.
