Amalfi Sunrise (Constitution) drew in from the also-eligible list and drew off in the stretch to run to even-money backing and be named a 'TDN Rising Star' Sunday at Santa Anita. The $40,000 KEESEP yearling and $185,000 OBS April acquisition (:9 4/5) fired a :47 flat (1/37) warning shot from the gate June 14, and broke well from her outside draw to keep front-running Save the Story (Will Take Charge) in her sights from second. She ranged up to that foe heading for home, and scampered clear in the lane under very confident Norberto Arroyo, Jr. handling to romp by 6 1/4 lengths with another 7 1/4-length chasm back to third. Amalfi Sunrise is the fourth winner for her first-crop sire (by Tapit), and could have been the fifth if fellow firster Surveillance (Constitution) hadn't run up on horses and been forced to steady abruptly, settling for fourth in the second race on the card. The winner is half to UAE Group 3-placed Gotti (More Than Ready) and a yearling colt by Violence. Her dam Soot Z (Empire Maker), a daughter of GSW/GISP Bella Chiarra (Phone Trick), sold for $92,000 at this year's Fasig-Tipton Winter Mixed Sale in foal to Tiznow.
