Lockdown made a powerful move on the far turn of the Busanda S. at Aqueduct and held sway in the lane to score in her stakes debut.

A good second on debut over the local main track Nov. 4, the Juddmonte homebred graduated next out and added Lasix for this feature as the 2-1 second choice. Stalking the pace of 3-5 favorite Libby's Tail (Tiz Wonderful) through splits of :24.11 and :48.33, Lockdown took over willingly from the pacesetter just outside the five-sixteenths pole and kicked away into the stretch. The chalk tried to re-rally in the stretch, but couldn't make a serious impact and Lockdown kept on to score by two lengths in 1:44.75. The winner is a full-sister to champion Close Hatches, while her second dam, Silver Star (GB), is a full to European champion Xaar (GB). Rising Tornado is responsible for a juvenile Tapit filly named Hail and foaled a Pioneerof the Nile colt last term before visiting Malibu Moon.

“With the way Bill Mott trains horses, he can get her to make the distance,” commented winning rider Kendrick Carmouche. “She has such a long stride, you just have to time her run and let her get into her stride and she'll take you home from there.”

LeAnna Willaford, assistant to Mott, added, “The plan coming in was to have her in stalking position and take it to them when the time came. Thankfully, everything worked as planned. She's been training real well, and I have to think eventually she'll end up in Florida. We'll see where she goes from there after talking to the Juddmonte people.” Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
