Zipessa (f, 4, City Zip–Precious Princess, by Horse Chestnut {SAf}) began her career last May with a dazzling maiden score over the Arlington Park polytrack, scoring by 6 3/4 lengths while running her final quarter-mile in under 23 seconds. She followed that up with a good-looking allowance win on turf Jul. 17 when shipped west to Del Mar, but regressed sharply when finishing a well-beaten eighth in the GI Del Mar Oaks S. Aug. 15 and hadn't been seen since. The $67,000 Fasig-Tipton Keeneland October grad returned from the near seven-month layoff Monday at Fair Grounds in impressive fashion. Sent off favored at just over 2-1, the chestnut filly broke quickly and made the lead in the first few strides. Rattling off fractions of :24.19 and :48.86, she turned into the stretch still under a hand ride, then exploded away when set down by rider Mitchell Murrill to score by 5 1/4 lengths in 1:37.93 despite taking an awkward stride around the eighth pole. Lemon Song (Lemon Drop Kid) finished second, with My Love Venezuela (Scat Daddy) checking in third. Lifetime Record: 4-3-0-0, $83,650.
