His connection's will be receive their trophy–a crystal timepiece set to the time California Chrome crossed the finish line in Dubai–at Saturday night's Eclipse Awards ceremony, where the chestnut is nominated for both Horse of the Year and champion older male.

The runner-up in the voting, which was done via Twitter and an online poll, was the epic stretch duel between champions Songbird (Medaglia d'Oro) and Beholder (Henny Hughes) in the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff.

“The fact that the public voted overwhelmingly for a moment that received limited media exposure in the United States demonstrates how passionate Thoroughbred racing fans are,” said Keith Chamblin, NTRA Chief Operating Officer. “This result is a surprise only to those that underestimate the power of a superstar like California Chrome.”
