Celebration of Life for Lee Parker Oct. 21

Ocala horseman Elmer Leland “Lee” Parker, Jr., passed away Aug. 31 at the age of 78. A celebration of life will be held in his honor Oct. 21 at Plantation on Crystal River at noon.

A longtime horseman, Parker entered the Thoroughbred industry in 1974 and developed Don Dee Farm and Training Center. He raced under the name Horses of Course and was a longtime shareholder in the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company.

Parker retired in 2001, but remained active in the racing industry until 2015, when he sold his last horse.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Florida Thoroughbred Charities or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
