GI Kentucky Oaks heroine Cathryn Sophia (Street Boss) and Her Emmynency (Successful Appeal), winner of Keeneland's GI Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup, have been consigned by Bedouin Bloodstock to Keeneland's 2017 November Breeding Stock Sale, which begins Nov. 7, it was announced Monday. Both mares are carrying their first foals, both by leading sire Pioneerof the Nile.

Campaigned on the racetrack by Chuck Zacney's Cash is King LLC, Cathryn Sophia captured five of her first six starts, culminating with her triumph on the first Friday in May in 2016. She retired later that year with earnings of over $1.2 million and subsequently sold for $1.4 million at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale to SF Bloodstock. She was bred to Pioneerof the Nile this spring.

“We dare to dream what this mating can produce,” Tom Ryan of SF Bloodstock said. “Physically Pioneerof the Nile and Cathryn Sophia are made for each other. Cathryn Sophia possessed genuine brilliance. She carried her speed all the way to win the Oaks with authority.”

Grade I-placed as a juvenile, Her Emmynency went on to amass more than $500,000 with victories on both dirt and turf, topped by a hard-fought win in 2015 QE II. The bay was a high-priced RNA for $1,425,000 at Fasig-Tipton November last year.

“We loved her determination–she pinned her ears and refused to let Miss Temple City past [in the QE II],” Ryan said. “She is a Grade I winner on the turf and Grade I-placed as a 2-year-old on the dirt. She is a beautiful, versatile mare for an exceptional sire in Pioneerof the Nile.”

Keeneland Vice President of Racing and Sales Bob Elliston added, “Keeneland is excited to showcase these two very special mares, both in foal to a top stallion, in November.”
