Bell Rings One Up for Exchange Rate Filly

Bloodstock agent Reynolds Bell, on the phone in the rear walking ring, saw off all challengers to land hip 276, a filly by Exchange Rate from the consignment of Niall Brennan Stables. The Florida-bred filly was a $70,000 OBSAUG yearling. Bell said he purchased the well-made filly for an unnamed partnership overseas headed by trainer Jeremy Noseda.

An attractive filly by Exchange Rate out of Wickedly Wise (Tactical Cat) realized a final bid of $375,000 as the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July Yearlings Sale entered its latter stages Tuesday afternoon. Consigned by Kitty Taylor's Warrendale Sales agency on behalf of David Hanley's Whitechurch, the grey filly was purchased by Zayat Stables. Just about two hours after her Grade I-winning daughter Lady Joanne (Orientate) sold for a seven-figure pricetag, Oatsee (Unbridled) followed suit, realizing a final bid of $1,550,000 from Lincoln Collins representing Leonard Riggio's My MeadowView LLC. Herself a stakes-placed runner, Oatsee, also the dam of MGSW Baghdaria (Royal Academy), was offered by Marty Takacs's Belvedere Farm, which acquired the mare for just $135,000 carrying a foal by Langfuhr at the 2006 Keeneland January sale. The sale's highest priced filly is by hot sophomore sire Tapit out of Cross Your Heart (Miswaki), a half-sister to Broken Vow (Unbridled). She breezed an eighth in :10 1/5 on March 5 in impressive fashion. Consigned by Jerry Bailey Sales Agency, Agent, she was purchased for $540,000 by Demi O'Byrne, Agent.
